Michael Jackson was a top recording artist, dancer, singer-songwriter, musician, and philanthropist for the world. From the time Michael Joe Jackson was born, he was an entertainer. His career started as the lead singer of 70’s group the Jackson 5, which was a group with Jackson and his brothers. They grew to fame with songs like “Rockin’ Robin”, “ABC”, and I’ll Be There.” As a child He and his brothers sang about love and heartache, although he may not have fully understood the concept one thing was certain, once on stageJacksonwas fully immersed in his music and his connection with the crowd. This is something that is evident in old footage of his concerts, fans falling to the ground, crying from emotional exertion and disbelief of experiencing Michael Jackson.
By the time Michael was a young adult he was a superstar, but his Thriller album threw him into the record books becoming the best selling album in history. The Thriller album was released in 1982, and became1983’s best-selling album worldwide and the best-selling album of all time in theUnited States. Rather than use his influence to make more money, Michael dedicated countless hours to charities. He worked to promote adoption, environmental care, child education, cancer research, and countless others. His devotion was so undeniable that Princess Diana, who took interest in countless charities also, became one of his life long friends. Through his music Michael spoke of tolerance, equality, and love for everything and everyone on Earth.
Though aspects of Jackson’s personal life, including his changing appearance, personal relationships and behavior, have generated controversy he is known by all as the King of Pop who was a true entertainer and always gave without asking for anything in return. He frequently spent his own money to deliver entertaining concerts to his fans, and even offered $500,000 of his own money to finish his Thriller video. Michael is gone physically, but his influence lives on today through the lives he has touched with his music and his music has helped create today’s most notable superstars (Usher, Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, etc). His contribution to music, dance, and fashion, along with a much-publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. He is truly missed and will always be remembered.
