If you don’t like sex, nudity, or pornography, stop right here; this movie isn’t for you. Do NOT go see this with your parents; it will be one of the most awkward experiences of your life. You may not want to see it with your significant other, either.
Don Jon follows the adventures of Jon (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a young Jersey boy who cares about his home, his church, his family, his car, his body and porn. He meets Barbara (played by Scarlett Johansson) at the club, and I can’t tell you too much more without spoiling the story.
There are many people who expect to see lots of female nudity, and people who are going to boycott the film for that same reason. I’m going to advise keeping an open mind: there’s a lot to be learned from this piece. It takes a look not only into the world of pornography, but at some interesting views about sex, relationships, outward appearances and inner beauty.
I found the movie hilarious, insightful and even heartwarming at times. It adds another notch to Gordon-Levitt’s acting belt, and is also a good producer/director debut. That’s right: he wrote, directed and starred in his own film. Triple threat? I think so. Don Jon hits theaters September 27, so grab your friends and be prepared to chuckle until your cheeks hurt.
